A rollicking send-up of backstage murder mystery plots, set in 1959 Boston, Massachusetts, Curtains follows the fallout when the supremely untalented star of Robbin’ Hood of the Old West is murdered during her opening night curtain call. It is up to a police detective who moonlights as a musical theatre fan to save the show, solve the case, and maybe even find love before the show reopens, without getting killed himself! With book by Rupert Holmes and music and lyrics by Kander & Ebb, the show promises a rip-roaring night of larger-than-life characters, romance, mystery and intrigue!

Presented by the University of Melbourne Music Theatre Association
Book by Rupert Holmes, Music by John Kander, Lyrics by Fred Ebb
Original Book and Concept by Peter Stone
Additional Lyrics by John Kander and Rupert Holmes
By arrangement with Origin Theatrical on behalf of Theatrical Rights Worldwide, New York

Gordon Schwinn, a talented young songwriter, learns that he has a brain tumor and needs an operation urgently. While in hospital, Gordon’s greatest fear is dying with his greatest songs still inside of him; and so from his hospital bed, and in while in a coma, he begins writing the songs. Gordon eventually has surgery and recovers completely – his near death experience encourages him to re-evaluate and better appreciate the people and relationships in his life. The show is an uplifting story of determination and hope, featuring music by William Finn and Jason Robert Brown, and book by James Lapine.
